The shop opened during 1875 selling ornaments, fabric and objets d'art from Japan and the East. As the business grew, neighbouring properties were bought and added.
Nowadays Liberty sells fashions, cosmetics, accessories, gifts etc. in addition to its homewares and furniture, both instore and online. Liberty has a long history of artistic and inspiring collaborative projects.

In August 1999, Irregular Choice was launched from the quaint seaside town of Brighton on the south coast of England, by design entrepreneur Dan Sullivan.
Over the last 10 years Irregular Choice has carved itself a niche and inadvertently founded itself a fan club. Having had collaborations with some of the worlds most sought after brands and designers, we are constantly pushing the boundaries with each collection.
Flashing lights and shooting stars, graffitied forests and spaceship rainbows are just some of the surroundings when you step into an Irregular Choice store. The Carnaby Book Exchange is a space where you can pick up a book, relax in an armchair and explore the vast expanses of fashion, travel, music, photography, design and history, to name but a few topics.  You are able to leave a book that you have read, and in return take one away from the space for free.

The project has been curated by the MA Fashion Curation students at London College of Fashion. Located in Kingly Court, just off Carnaby Street, you can even share your thoughts and recommendations on the book you are leaving behind, with the swapping concept not only involving the sharing of books, but also the sharing of memories. Carnaby is world renowned for being an incubator for fashion, music and style-tribes. The Carnaby Book Exchange will serve as an incubator for a passion shared, at what will possibly be London’s most diverse book club.

SHOPPING IN CARNABY STREET PART ONE

Carnaby is the cheerful pedestrianised area in north Soho just behind Regent Street. The area has seen a lot of changes in the last few years, especially at the southern end of Carnaby Street, where in addition to a number of new stores, there is now a passage through to Kingly Court with three floors of one-off 'concept' shops and studios where it is possible to find items not sold anywhere else in London.

By the 1960s, Carnaby Street proved popular for followers of both the Mod and hippie styles. Many independent fashion boutiques, were located in Carnaby Street as well as various underground music bars such as the Roaring Twenties in the surrounding streets. With bands such as Small Faces, The Who, and Rolling Stones appearing in the area to work (with the legendary Marquee Club located round the corner in Wardour Street), shop, and socialize, it became one of the coolest destinations associated with the Swinging London of the 1960s.

Now, Carnaby Street, is known for unique independent boutiques, global fashion brands and award winning restaurants, cafés and bars, making it one of London's most popular and distinctive shopping and lifestyle destinations.

(Carnaby Street è una strada pedonale dall'atmosfera sempre allegra e gioisa, subito dietro a Regent Street. Quest'area ha subito nel corso degli anni molte trasformazioni, sopratutto nel cuore de quest'area dove, accanto a negozi storici, sono sorti numerosi bars, local concept store, come il passaggio chiamato Kingly Court con tre piani di piccoli negozi artigianali, studi creativi e bar dove si possono comprare cose particolari.

Dagli anni '60, Carnaby è diventata popolare grazie al movimento hippy, numerose ed indipendenti fashion boutique e underground music bars, poi grazie anche a band famose come Small Faces, The Who, and Rolling Stones che passavano molto tempo in quella zona a lavorare, quest'area è entrata definitivamente nell'immaginario di chi viene a Londra, è da allora una delle destinazioni piu cool della città. 

Cambia stile ogni anno per Natale mantenendo pero' la sua aurea di hippy - happy mood).

POP UP STORE

also known as pop-up store (pop-up shop in the UK) or flash retailing, is a trend of opening short-term sales spaces. A pop-up retail space is a venue that is temporary — the space could be a sample sale one day and host a private cocktail party the next evening. The trend involves “popping-up” one day, then disappearing anywhere from one day to several weeks later. These shops, while small and temporary, can build up interest by consumer exposure. Pop-up retail allows a company to create a unique environment that engages their customers, as well as generates a feeling of relevance and interactivity. They are often used by marketers for seasonal items such as Halloween costumes and decorations, Christmas gifts and Christmas trees, or firework.
